The Elks Building

Bringing New Bern's tallest landmark back into the life of the city.

A 1908 landmark, restored as a place downtown can use again.

The Elks Building has stood on Middle Street since 1908 — built as a lodge for the Elks fraternity, and home to a long line of businesses in the decades since. It is the tallest and most prominent commercial building in downtown New Bern, and for too long it has sat empty. King & Lasso acquired it to change that. The restoration will return the building to active use as a mixed-use anchor for downtown: a place to eat, work, live, and gather, under one historic roof.

Follow the restoration

The project moves through three phases over the coming years. Follow the progress as it unfolds.

More than the investment, it's the memory.

Many New Bernians grew up with the Elks Building — and many have watched it sit quiet for decades. For Deion King, restoring it is the clearest expression of what King & Lasso is for: investing in the projects that mean something to this city. The dollars are significant. The chance for the community to walk through the building again — to revisit old memories and start new ones — is worth more.
