Horse Caretake

Provide daily care for horses on a private property in the New Bern area. Handle feeding, turnout, stall maintenance, and general wellbeing checks on a consistent morning and evening schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete morning and evening feeds on a consistent schedule
  • Manage turnout and bring-in daily
  • Muck stalls, refresh bedding, and maintain water sources
  • Monitor body condition, appetite, and behavior for changes
  • Groom, pick hooves, and blanket as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of the barn, feed room, and surrounding areas
  • Communicate directly with the owner about any concerns
  • Coordinate access for farrier and veterinary visits when scheduled

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience caring for horses without supervision
  • Dependable daily availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Sound judgment in recognizing when a horse needs attention
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors year-round
  • Two references, preferably equine-related
